Kitty Hawk was a teacher even in her passing.
As she was getting up in age, I knew the time would come when I would have to make the final decision. I dreaded it, but I had come to accept that it would be my responsibility one day. In 2009, she helped to raise my newest foal, but she was having trouble getting around, she hung in until she felt her job was finished. She had a harder time over the winter, and I started to feel that I would soon have to make the decision. In February, she went down in a stall, and did not want to get up. The weather had been very cold for quite some time, and I was reminded that it would not be possible to bury her on the property until the ground thawed. So, I made a deal with her. If she would get up, I would take care of her until the ground thawed, and then let her rest. She got up, crisis averted for now! Forward to the end of March, we had a beautiful week, and Kitty was doing nicely. Friday morning, when I went to feed, she was down in her stall. Her eyes said "You promised, and it's time to make good on that promise!"
She made the decision easy, but, she made me keep my word. It was peaceful, my best friend was gone. She's now grazing on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. She made an impression on everyone, she taught many kids how to ride, love, and enjoy life. We had saved her when she was a yearling, and she repaid that good deed many times over. She lives on in all of our hearts.

Hi Cheryl,

Thank you for contacting me. I am sorry but I do not know anyone in the bay area with a NARHA certification, however if you would like to forward me more information about the position I will gladly pass it along. I will be heading to bay area later this winter and would love to check out your center. I will contact you directly to discuss in more detail.

Thanks Again,
Meghan
